Martin is that quiet, geeky kid who has difficulty socializing. But he's smart and cute!

Platonic:

Looking for students who might want to study together, work together on class assignments, or conduct magical experiments together on their own time.

Looking for students who might need help in some subject. Maybe Martin can be bribed? Everything he owns is old because he can't afford anything new.

Looking for a professor who could take Martin under their wing and mentor him in some capacity, like Lupin did for Harry in canon. He doesn't have any father figure.

Romantic:

The more intelligent you are, the more interested he'll be in you. You'll have to make the first move though, because he's socially awkward.

Antagonistic:

An academic rival would be awesome!

Nigel would be able to mentor Martin. As the transfiguration professor and a former Unspeakable who was trained in Occlumency, he would be able to help Martin become an Animagus and Occlumens. Nigel would also be quite familiar with the rigorous and scientific approach that Martin favours, since transfiguration is one of the more scientific branches of magic.

Coincidentally Martin is quite close to my idea of what a stereotypical Dextera would be like; I imagine Nigel’s father might have been similar to Martin in his youth. As such, Nigel would take an interest in Martin for that reason as well.
