Dance Prep Threads
Players are welcome to begin their "dance prep" threads now. Ideas for dance prep threads:
- Your character(s) finding a date (or getting rejected by their crush)
- Your character(s) shopping/making their outfit for the dance
- Your character(s) practising the dance with their dance partner or a friend
Dance Lessons
Dance lessons will be held in four separate threads, one for each house. The threads will be started by their instructor. The instructors and threads for each house are as follows:
- Gryffindor: Declan Murphy – For Those With a Lack of Grace
- Hufflepuff: Nigel Dextera – I’ll Make a Dancer Out of You
- Ravenclaw: Elyria Silverberg & Ethan Forrester – A Lesson for Waltz to Come
- Slytherin: Camellia Fah – Nobody Puts Baby in a Dungeon
These threads are optional and your character(s) can choose not to attend.
The Winter Solstice Dance Threads
The Winter Solstice Dance will begin on 19 August 2023. This start date gives players one month to begin and make progress on their dance prep threads. The event is optional and your character(s) can choose not to attend.
Please don't feel as if you need to rush your dance prep threads. Time-travelling and backdating is acceptable and prep threads can run concurrently or even start after the dance is finished. We want everyone to enjoy this event and all of the potential plots that come with it, even if that means threads are posted/finished out of order.
The Main Thread/Group Thread
On 19 August, Ethan & Elyria will begin a thread that will act as the "Main Thread" or the "Group Thread".
To keep this thread from becoming too cluttered, please limit posts in this thread to things that would be relevant or significant to multiple characters, such as:
- Speeches
- Musical performances
- Anything that would elicit a reaction from a crowd (e.g., fights, emotional outbursts, pranks, etc.)
If you wish to include details about your character picking up their date or getting ready, feel free to include it in your first post in the Main Thread.
To make it easier for players to see at a quick glance where all of the characters are, please make an OOC notation at the end of your post summarizing where your character is and what they're doing. Please post your OOC notation in the colour #7764be.
For example:
- (OOC: Trent leaves the Great Hall and is smoking a cigarette in the Transfiguration Courtyard)
- (OOC: Julian is sitting at a table in the Great Hall and is trying not to fall asleep as Athena Ward talks his ear off)
Private Threads
After your first post in the Main Event thread, please begin a second thread which will focus on your character and their date and/or a small group of friends.
Please continue to make OOC notations in the colour #7764be at the end of your posts to make it easier for players to find ways to interact with your character.
Hopping Between Threads & Where to Post
If your character reacts quietly/privately to something happening in the Main Thread, please post your character's reaction in your private thread.
If your character does something that will elicit a reaction from multiple characters, please post it in the Main Thread.
If your character wishes to have a minor interaction (i.e. less than two posts) with a character that is not part of your private thread, please post it in the Main Thread and ping the appropriate players.
If your character wishes to have a major interaction (i.e. more than two posts) with a character that is not part of your private thread, please discuss with the players involved to decide which thread to post it in. Players may pop in and out of each other’s private threads as needed.
To better illustrate the above, we have prepared a sample thread to showcase how three pairs of characters could interact with each other while hopping in and out of their respective private threads. Initially, all the characters begin in the main thread before breaking off into their own private threads. Subsequently, each pair can make references to what the other pairs are doing in their own thread, or interact with other pairs by jumping into the main thread or another private thread.
Please feel free to use your discretion or ask questions if you aren't sure which thread to post in, but there is no "right" or "wrong" way of posting, the only important thing is to have fun!
Thanks to everyone who helped organize this and to Luciain for the beautiful graphics!
