"Celertorsi!"

A training dummy across the dueling stage began to spin rapidly as if its motions were to start a tornado. Opposite this twisting target of turbulence was the schools own Deputy Head, wand spinning in a circle while her attention was turned to the open parchment that dangled in the air from her other hand. She'd spent the better part of the Fall term working on a new spell for dueling that she wanted to get reviewed and primed for publication before the end of the current term. Perhaps it was a bit overzealous of her, but Elyria knew how long these things could take and she wanted to get it into the next edition of The Standard Book of Spells so that she could introduce it in a dueling club meeting.

As the training dummy began to clank and clammer due to the force of the spin knocking it off its gravity center, Elyria slowed down her movements with her wand until they eventually stopped. She set down the parchment on a nearby table before magically erasing some words and writing an updated version with her signature purple ink.

Proposed by: Professor Elyria Silverberg, Deputy Headmistress and Charms Master, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry

Overview: The Rapid Spinning Jinx, Celertorsi, was designed with the intention of disabling a foe through a quick spinning motion. The spell itself is a portmanteau of the Latin words Celert, meaning swift or quick, and Torseris, meaning ‘you spin.’

Incantation: “Celertorsi” seh-leh-TOR-see

Spell Pattern:

Notes about the Spell:
Celertorsi is a spell that requires the user’s focus and constant motion of their wand to maintain the action of the spell. At the initial cast of the spell, Celertorsi will spin its target a only ten seconds before ending if the user does not continually use the spell pattern. If the caster maintains the spell pattern, they are able to control the speed and duration of the spell more effectively. To end the spell, simply end the motion of the wand or use a spell such as Finite Incantatem.

Additionally, this spell works on living and not-living targets. Using the Rapid Spinning Jinx on living targets can cause the target to develop dizziness or nausea. Should the target fall, they will continue to spin until the spell is finished or interrupted.

Short and concise, Elyria read it over three more times, checking for any misspellings or concluding thoughts she may have had. Sure, she could've written a book on the entire process she went through, but after her first spell and receiving a politely blunt letter prior to approval, she figured it best to keep it short and sweet. After all, it was a jinx to spin a target. She wasn't transfiguring a cat into a dragon or anything. After letting the ink dry, which she helped speed up the process with a little wave of her wand over the page, Elyria stuffed the documents into an envelope and made her way to the owlry, letting out a deep breath before she headed that way.
