Family History
Alexander Innes and Carolyn Bell had their first child while they were both fifth-year students at Hogwarts. Born on 29 October 1975, Dorian Alexander Innes was left in the care of his paternal grandparents for what was supposed to be the remainder of their school career.

Alex and Caro graduated from Hogwarts in June of 1978 and eloped a week later, at the height of the First Wizarding War. Wanting to join the war effort, the newlyweds joined the Order of the Phoenix and began training as Aurors with the Ministry of Magic. For the next three years, Alex and Caro had little hands-on with Dorian, and he remained living with his grandparents.

By the time of Voldemort's disappearance in October of 1981, both of Alex's parents had been killed in the war. Caro's family (who had all but disowned her due to her teenage pregnancy) remained estranged. While Alex began his career as a low-ranking Auror, Caro put her ambitions on hold and stayed home with Dorian, who was now six years old.

Motherhood wasn't quite as fulfilling as Caro had thought it would be, however, and the next five years were unhappy ones. While her career had barely begun, she watched as her husband climbed the ranks in his department and grew increasingly resentful with no end in sight as she gave birth to their second son a day after Dorian left for Hogwarts.

Early Life
Born on 2 September 1987, Trent Dorian was named after his elder brother (a middle name he dislikes to this day). It was only a few weeks later that Caro decided she was not suited to full-time parenting, let alone taking care of a baby, and she rejoined the Ministry of Magic, leaving Trent in the hands of hired care.

Despite guilt over their frequent absence in the boys' life, the couple had hoped that leaving Trent (and Dorian when home on holidays) in hired care would be temporary. As Dorian and Trent grew older, however, Alex and Caro became aware of the emotional distance they had created between them. They were additionally offended by the boys' attitude: Dorian's resentment and Trent's indifference. Rather than face the guilt and regret over their poor (or non-existent) relationships with their children, Alex and Caro began to spend - if possible - even less time at home.

While Trent feels that his childhood was decent, he hasn’t been back to his family home since leaving for his sixth year at Hogwarts, and he officially moved out at seventeen when he came of age. While not particularly attached to his parents, Trent holds no resentment towards them and has remained in low contact with Alex and Caro for the last year, despite no longer having any obligation to do so.

If Trent has little affection towards his parents, however, he has less for his older brother. With a twelve-year age gap, Trent and Dorian did not attend school together and only saw each other on holidays. There were few opportunities for them to bond, and on the rare occasions they were together, Dorian’s role was more of a babysitter than of a brother. As their age difference became less and less significant, there was a brief period when the two brothers could have become friends. Neither of them reached out, however, and the opportunity did not last very long. With Dorian now stationed at Hogwarts as an Auror and in a place of authority over Trent once again, he is avoided as much as possible.

Hogwarts
Trent began Hogwarts in September 1999 and was placed into Slytherin. For the first five years at Hogwarts, Trent was somewhat of an apathetic student. For the classes that interested him the most, Trent had a great attendance record. His least favourite classes were ones that he didn't see value in; he had no interest in the study of magical history or the movements of planets. These classes were skipped as often as he could get away with. Not a high achiever, Trent was unconcerned about his grades and was often in detention. As he suffered no real repercussion to this unimpressive academic record - indeed, sometimes detention was preferable - he had little motivation to change.

It wasn't until his mid-fifth year, after Careers Advice, that Trent began to take his education more seriously. Allured by the adventure that Curse-Breaking offered, he realized he would need to achieve particular O.W.L.s to continue on this career path. To the surprise of his teachers and classmates (who had grown accustomed to his lack of direction), Trent began attending class regularly and put more effort into his homework than the usual bare minimum. Of course, this meant that the classes he didn't need to continue for Curse-Breaking were neglected more than ever. As he had no plans of continuing with these classes, he was perfectly happy with failing them.

Barely scraping an 'E' in Potions, Trent was able to take all the required classes at N.E.W.T. level. Trent finished his sixth year – although his work ethic had slightly diminished – with passes and applied for an apprenticeship with Gringotts bank. As he was already of age, he was accepted into the programme and shadowed as a Curse-breaker for a few weeks in the summer, despite not having yet finished Hogwarts. Although Gringotts was satisfied with his talents and abilities, they were unimpressed by his academic record and refused to take him on until he became a fully licensed wizard with specific N.E.W.T. grades. As a result, Trent has returned to Hogwarts reluctantly but is more determined than ever to make it through this final year.

Personal
A product of growing up in a household with absent family members, Trent has grown into an independent young adult. He has many acquaintances, and he dates casually, but with a tendency to stay emotionally distant, Trent only has a couple of friends and has never been in a romantic relationship. Although he spends the majority of his time alone, Trent doesn't feel particularly lonely. Between daily conversations with his classmates (admittedly sometimes one-sided) and the casual hookup, Trent has felt perfectly fulfilled by these interactions. He isn't opposed to forming anything deeper, but he isn't actively looking to.

Trent experiences strong emotions, but he tends to keep them to himself. Fairly stoic, with a cool and collected demeanour, Trent is difficult to read and is sometimes considered aloof. He is easygoing and polite, but he is also taciturn, and his words – or lack thereof – can come across as brusque, however unintentionally. Private and reluctant to talk about himself, Trent will open up when he feels comfortable with someone, and he can be a caring and loyal friend.

Trent is happiest when he doesn't have a routine, and he resents his time at school where he feels controlled and confined. Often bored and restless, he spends as much time out of the castle as possible, often staying out past curfew. Trent seeks thrill and adventure and aspires to be a Curse-Breaker, the shining light at the end of the very dull tunnel that is Hogwarts.

Physical
Trent stands at 6'1", with a lean muscular build. He has a fair and clear complexion and is usually clean-shaven though sometimes has a light stubble beard. His hair is thick, onyx black, and slightly tousled. Trent’s eyes are a hazel colour, with more green than brown and while his face is often quite impenetrable, his eyes can be his most expressive physical feature.

When he’s not wearing his school uniform – which admittedly, is quite frequently – Trent has a casual style. He favours plain black robes and cloaks, and underneath dark denim jeans and cotton long-sleeved shirts or t-shirts. He has no tattoos or piercings and he doesn’t wear any jewelry, other than a watch on his left wrist.

Aware that his natural facial expressions make him appear standoffish, or even intimidating, Trent has become accustomed to the forced smile. This smile is done out of politeness rather than actual affection; it’s not fake but it’s not entirely genuine either. With closed body language, this smile is tight-lipped, and while it is pleasing enough to look at, it expresses little emotion. His genuine smile happens less often but is given when he feels comfortable with someone, with relaxed body language, and is sometimes accompanied by a laugh. Wide with slight dimples, his true smile reaches his eyes and warms his usual cool appearance.
