Eleanor, a Muggle historian, met Augustus while researching medieval witch trials—not knowing at the time that Augustus was a wizard. When he finally revealed the truth, she was fascinated rather than afraid. The two fell in love, united by their love of history and justice.
During the Second Wizarding War, Henry was a toddler, too young to understand the conflict but old enough for his parents to fear for his future. Thought Augustus was never a member of the Order of the Phoenix, he used his expertise to help Muggle-borns and half-bloods navigate the legal system, ensuring that they weren’t stripped of their rights or targeted by new oppressive policies, while Eleanor, as a Muggle, had to watch from the sidelines, horrified as she learned about Voldemort's reign of terror. Augustus has to tread lightly, as to not draw too much attention in his direction with his Muggle wife.
He often liked hearing the stories of his first acts of accidental magic when he was a youngster, starting from the first instance when he was four years old:
The Floating Library Incident (Age 4)
One afternoon, Henry wanted to reach a book on the top shelf of his father’s study. Frustrated that he couldn’t climb up, he reached out his hand—and the book flew straight into his arms. Unfortunately, the magic didn’t stop there, and soon the entire bookshelf emptied itself onto the floor.
By age five, his magic manifested more frequently:
The Garden Shed Rescue (Age 5)
While playing outside with Charlotte, Henry pretended to be a knight rescuing a princess. When Charlotte got accidently locked inside the garden shed, Henry panicked—and, without realizing it, the door burst open with a loud BANG. His father was delighted at Henry’s magical potential. His mother, on the other hand, was just relieved no one got hurt.
At age six, Henry’s magic became more unpredictable:
The Floating Tea Set Disaster (Age 6)
During a family visit, Henry wanted to help serve tea like a grown-up. When he realized the tray was too heavy, his magic made it levitate—for about three seconds. The next moment, the entire set crashed onto the floor, covering guests in tea.
Despite these accidental bursts of magic, Henry was excited rather than frightened by his abilities. He had heard stories of Hogwarts from his father, and he couldn’t wait to become a wizard himself.
When the Ministry fell in 1997, Augustus knew that his half-blood status might not protect him if he spoke out too loudly. He and Eleanor kept a low profile, ensuring that Henry was kept safe and unaware of the growing danger. They considered fleeing England altogether but ultimately stayed to help in secret, using Augustus’ and Eleanors' connections to smuggle magical families into hiding.
Henry, of course, was blissfully unaware of the war at the time. His only memories of that period were hushed whispers, worried glances, and the sense that his parents were afraid of something they never fully explained. It wasn’t until he was older that he truly understood what had happened—and why his parents were so passionate about fighting for fairness in the wizarding world.
After Voldemort’s fall in 1998, Augustus remained dedicated to rebuilding the wizarding world, focusing on reforming outdated magical laws. His work often kept him busy, but he always made time for his family. By then, Henry was three years old. It wasn't long until he had siblings, starting with Charlotte (b. 1999), Oliver (b. 2002), and baby Eloise (b. 2005).
Growing up in a house filled with both Muggle and magical knowledge, Henry had an early love for stories, and adventure. He was an energetic and curious child who idolized the heroes in his mother’s history books and the great wizards in his father’s stories.
As the oldest child in the Whitmore family, Henry felt a strong sense of responsibility toward his younger siblings:
Lottie adored her big brother. Henry often entertained her with over-the-top stories about Hogwarts, making her desperate to join him one day. Ollie was more timid than Henry, often worrying whether he’d be magical or not. Henry constantly reassured him, promising that, "Even if you don’t get a wand, you’ll always be part of something magical." Elsie was still a baby when Henry left for Hogwarts, but he already felt protective over her. Though he claimed to find her boring, he secretly loved making funny faces to get her to laugh and listening to her gurgles and coos.
Though Henry loved his family, he sometimes struggled with living up to his father’s reputation. Augustus has a brilliant legal mind and aptitude for study, while Henry was more impulsive and action-driven. He admired his father but often worried he wasn’t "smart enough" to follow in his footsteps.
By the time Henry was eleven, he had no doubts that he would be attending Hogwarts. When his letter arrived, the entire Whitmore household celebrated. However, once he was standing in the Great Hall, about to be sorted, a wave of uncertainty hit him.
When the Sorting Hat was placed on his head, it hesitated, sensing his conflicting qualities. Ultimately, he was sorted quickly and he found his place getting involved at school.
He joined the Dueling Club, wanting to hone his magical instincts, and quite likes Gobstones, or Exploding Snap. He was fascinated by Defense Against the Dark Arts, eager to learn how to stand up against dark forces. Excelled in hands on classes such as Charms, Transfiguration, Flying and DADA. However, he was not the best at Potions, often too impatient to follow exact instructions. He secretly hoped to join the Gryffindor Quidditch team one day, even though he wasn’t sure if he’d be any good - perhaps he'd be ok at being a Chaser? Henry has a knack for finding trouble, so has started a student club to explore the Forbidden Forest - 'The Forbidden Forest Exploration Club'. He encourages students who want to join to bring a lantern, a few protective spells (their wands of course), and probably some chocolate frogs - because adventuring is hungry work. He had a plan though, if a professor caught them, he'd take the blame rather than letting his friends get into trouble.
Though still figuring himself out, one thing was clear—Henry Whitmore was ready for whatever adventure Hogwarts had in store.
Personality: Henry was raised in a household where curiosity, courage, and standing up for what’s right were highly valued. His father, Augustus Whitmore, is a wizarding archivist who has spent years researching forgotten magical laws, while his mother, Eleanor Whitmore, is a Muggle historian who always encouraged Henry to explore the world fearlessly. With parents who loved both history and adventure, it’s no surprise that Henry grew up wanting to carve his own path, rather than follow in anyone’s footsteps.
Unlike some Gryffindors who seek glory, Henry is driven by principles. He believes in doing what’s right, no matter the cost, and he has a deeply ingrained sense of fairness and justice. He’s the type to step in when others won’t, even if he knows it will get him into trouble. Though brave to the point of recklessness, he always acts with good intentions—he just doesn’t always think things through.
Henry has a quick temper, especially when he sees someone being treated unfairly. He’s fiercely protective of his friends, sometimes to the point of picking fights he can’t win. He doesn’t always know when to back down, and while he would rather talk things out, if push comes to shove, he won’t hesitate to stand his ground.
