Martin Bishop
Full Name: Martin Bishop
Age: 15
House: Ravenclaw
Year: 5
History:
Lost his wizard auror father in the Battle of Hogwarts. Raised by his squib mother who earns very little income as a file clerk for the Ministry of Magic. After his father died, he took whatever part-time work he could get around Diagon Alley (including during the summers between terms) to supplement his mother’s income. They make their home in a rented room in London’s wizarding district.
After starting at Hogwarts, he found it difficult to make friends because he was so focused on his studies, and didn’t have much free time to socialize. His peers view him as a reclusive geek and leave him to his own devices, though a few students consider him to be an academic rival. He rarely raises his hand in class to supply answers, as he doesn’t care about house points and doesn’t want to draw attention to himself, but when the rest of the class is stumped, he’ll usually have the right answer, if not an insightful answer, if the professor calls on him out of desperation.
Personality:
A model student and a voracious reader with an insatiable curiosity and gifted with an excellent memory. Always goes above and beyond the requirements for his assignments and projects to do something a little extra. Believes that mere adequacy constitutes mediocrity. Frequently stays after class to ask more insightful questions regarding the material that was just covered. Often finds it easier to befriend adults than those his own age. Makes corrections to his textbooks. Familiar with the scientific method, he’s been known to conduct experiments to attempt to reverse-engineer the laws that govern magic, or improve upon an existing potion.
A perfect gentleman who’s always respectful. Rarely if ever loses his composure. Disciplined; never procrastinates. Fits the profile for asperger syndrome, a high-functioning form of autism that manifests as intense focus on narrow topics of interest and difficulty in interpreting other peoples’ emotions. Considers Quidditch to be of little value except as flying practice.
Miscellaneous:
Most of his clothes, books, and other possessions are second-hand and mended or lengthened where needed. He’s embarrassed by his family’s limited finances, but knows that if he aces his OWLs and NEWTs, doors will open for him.
Face Claim: Aidan Gallagher
Orientation: uncertain
Pet: a crow named Rook that he uses in lieu of an owl. Its name is a pun in more ways than one. (it was a raven when this character was approved, but I felt that was too cliche, so I changed it to a crow; I also assumed a crow would be cheaper than an owl)
