History:

Jade was born to Death Eater parents, decidedly not the best start in life. Her mother had suffered several miscarriages prior to Jade's conception. It's possible this is because they were attempting to use magic to influence the pregnancy in some way or other, such as manipulating her eye color, a practice that's both poorly understood and quite illegal.

However, she was orphaned in 1998 at the age of 4, when both parents were killed in the Battle of Hogwarts. Her parents never had the chance to indoctrinate her with their beliefs. Their joint will contained a list of preferred guardians for her (all pureblood), however after some investigation, all were found to be deceased, missing, or serving life sentences in Azkaban. As she had no known surviving relatives, this left her a ward of the state of Magical Britain.

The Ministry liquidated her parents' estate, and put the proceeds into a trust fund for her. While she wouldn't be instantly wealthy, it would be sufficient to give her a degree of flexibility upon finishing her schooling.

She spent the following years living in a wizarding orphanage (alternatively, she could have been placed in a series of foster homes on a temporary or rotating basis until a permanent home could be found). She wasn't the only orphan resulting from the Battle of Hogwarts, but due to the stigma surrounding her parents' allegiance to Voldemort, she was among the last of the group to be adopted.

Personality:

Quiet, reserved, and studious. Afraid of failure. Prefers to keep to herself and work alone, partly because she's afraid of other people slowing her down and holding her back, partly because she doesn't want to be responsible for anyone else, or for anyone else's reputation to be hurt through association with her. Wants to escape the stigma surrounding her birth parents, but is unsure how to accomplish that. Slow to trust anyone. Willing to help others if she can do so without appearing to be doing it for self-serving reasons. Dislikes narcissists and fake personalities. Feels like she's perpetually on trial and has to prove herself.
